Audrey T. Smith

October 6, 1928 — February 8, 2023

Audrey T. Smith

Age 94, of Northville formerly of Dearborn, passed away February 8, 2023.  She was born October 6, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois; daughter of Carl and Helen (Hurkes) Testroet.  She graduated from Jones Commercial High School in Chicago, Illinois; class of 1945.  Audrey was united in marriage to Richard E. Smith on April 26, 1952; they spent 34 years lovingly devoted to one another until his death on July 2, 1986.

Audrey was a dedicated mother and raised her family in Dearborn.  As her children got older, she began a career as a secretary for Jamie Johnson Real Estate in Dearborn and worked there until her retirement in 1984.

Audrey was a member of Saint Aidan Catholic Church in Livonia where she faithfully attended mass each Sunday.  Incredibly generous; Audrey supported many causes dear to her heart and volunteered with the Red Cross during blood drives and at the front desk at Botsford Hospital.  Active in her condo community, she was a member of a wine club and a book club.  An avid reader, she liked books about international intrigue, historical fiction, and mysteries.

Audrey was a world traveler logging over 21 countries in her passport, even impressively landing in Antarctica in her 70’s.  Her favorite places to visit were Switzerland and Scotland.  Much of her travel was done with Classique Tours where she made many wonderful friends from overseas throughout the years.  Audrey kept her mind sharp watching the news and games shows, particularly Jeopardy, as well as playing her favorite card game “13”.  Audrey was tech savvy too and used her iPhone to send daily text messages to her children, read the newspaper and play solitaire. Audrey was an avid Tiger fan and kept their TV schedule close at hand.  She also kept active with swim-nastics and walking in her neighborhood where she enjoyed watching the ducks.

Audrey adored dogs and had many faithful companions throughout her life, including a favored pet named Duchess.  She loved when Gibson, a service dog, visited her assisted living residence at Marycrest and always had treats waiting to spoil him.  Known for her beautiful silver hair, Audrey was always well dressed and accessorized.  She enjoyed clothes shopping and amassed quite a wardrobe.  Audrey was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend; she will be missed by all who loved her.

Audrey is survived by her loving children, Pamela (David) Clark, Jeff (Donna) Smith, Joanne (Barry) Schigelone, and Gary (Kathy) Smith; her grandchildren, Kelly (Bruce) Smith, Jessica (Matt) Mihelic, Laura (Robert) Seliski, Rebecca (Troy) Androli, Emily (Paul) Dieter, Andrew (Julia Lubas) Schigelone, and Michael (Kadrine Lee-Taylor) Schigelone; her great grandchildren, Caleb, Ethan, Josephine, Anthony, Vincent, Edmund, Gwendolyn, Philip, Blake, Weston, Tyler, Colin, Brynlee, Brody, Bryce, and one on the way; and her step-grandchildren, Rebecca (Graham Hukill) Frank, Henry (Sarah Vaughan) Frank, and Ruthie Impastato.  She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
