Allen H. Purchis IV, age 59, of Northville, passed away on May 5, 2023 after a brief and unexpected battle with cancer. He was born on June 15, 1963 in Dearborn, Michigan; son of Allen G. Purchis III and Marylou E. Howes. Allen was united in marriage to Kelly E. Cascaden on September 10, 1994; they were devoted to each other for over 28 years.
Allen has lived in Northville since 1989; he was previously of Westland. He grew up in the Livonia/Redford area, attended Clarenceville High School as a freshman and transferred to Hemet High School in Hemet, California where he graduated with the class of 1982. In 1985, Allen began a career as a Truck Driver with Reliable Carriers, a specialized car hauler company. He was a dedicated employee for over 38 years.
Big Al, as his family and friends called him, loved basketball and was a lifetime Detroit Pistons fan. He proudly coached his son’s basketball team and played in a men’s league through Northville Parks and Rec. Al’s team won the league championship in 2005. His love of basketball evolved into a diverse collection of memorabilia, including many autographed items from the Pistons. Al liked the thrill of estate sales where he was always looking for hidden treasures to add to his extensive antique collection. When he spent time with friends and neighbors, he often enjoyed a glass of chardonnay. Twenty years ago, he and his wife purchased property up north and Al’s dream was to build a cottage for their family. His dream came true in 2019 and it was truly his favorite place to be. Al was an amazing husband, a great father, a loving son, and a generous friend.
Al is survived by his wife Kelly; his sons, Allen W. Purchis V, Jason P. Purchis, and Jacob M. Purchis; his mother Marylou Howes; his stepmother Sue Purchis; his father-in-law William (Laura) Cascaden; his mother-in-law Liz Cascaden; his sisters, Stacey Purchis and Shannon Purchis; his brother-in-law Jason Cascaden; his sisters-in-law, Susanne (Colin) Miltimore and Rebecca (Ben Young) Cascaden; and his nieces and nephews, Kendrix, Shawna, Adeline, Chase, and Bryce. He was preceded in death by his father Allen G. Purchis III and his stepfather-in-law John Crotteau.
Memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 4pm until 8pm. A celebration of Al’s life will be held Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 11am with visitation beginning at 10am at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville.
