Allen W. Cassady

Allen W. Cassady, age 82, passed away on May 19, 2019. He was born on October 28, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Charles and Agnes (nee Kerr) Cassady. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1955 until 1958. Allen was united in marriage to Margaret A. Schomberger on April 25, 1959. This past April marked 60 years of devotion to each other.

Allen was a salesman with Benlee Trailers for 20 years, retiring in 1996. His ready smile, sense of humor, and gift of the gab helped leverage his success. Allen was the grandfather who built custom potty chairs for grandchildren with their own magazine racks, the uncle who taught nieces to jitterbug, the father who raised 4 teenaged daughters and a son with only one bathroom.

Allen could and would fix anything; he could always be found in his garage tinkering. He especially loved restoring discarded “treasures” or repairing/building something for his family. His garage brought him peace and endless opportunities to create.

Allen was a man of the water. “The Lake” played a foundational role in his family’s life - from Lakeville to Lake Huron to the Irish Hills, five generations of clan Cassady spent Sundays together playing at The Lake. Having all of his chicks in the nest, boating and fishing, and puttering in the garage. These are the things that brought Allen great joy.

Allen is survived by his wife Margaret; his children, Charlie (Janice) Cassady, Karen (John) Starcevich, Kathy (Sam) Mastantuono, Jane (Levon Yengoyan) Cassady, and Kris (Chris) Mulcahy; his grandchildren, Chase Cassady Hunter Cassady, Jessica (fiancee Phil Streccius) Starcevich, Hannah Starcevich, Johnny Starcevich, Simone Mastantuono, Jack Mastantuono, John Yengoyan, and Shae Bradley; and his great granddaughter Lauren Mastantuono. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jack Cassady.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 10am until Noon with the funeral service beginning at Noon at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. Pastor James N. McGuire with Christ Presbyterian Church in Novi will officiate the service. Allen will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.

Memorial contributions in Allen’s name would be appreciated to Central Detroit Christian, 1550 Taylor, Detroit, MI 48206. Kathy and Sam Mastantuono have partnered with the church for over 10 years, providing meals for their “Breakthrough Tutoring” program, an after school program for inner city kids providing them with a hot meal and help on that week’s school work. The kids range in age from 6-18 years old. Kathy can be seen every Tuesday serving kids the hot meal that Sam had prepared.
