Shirley Lokey

Alice Shirley Lokey, age 93, of Bonita Springs, Florida, formerly of Ypsilanti, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2018. She was born November 22, 1924 in Iron Mountain, Michigan; daughter of Donald and Leola (nee Noall) Moody.  She graduated from Ishpeming High School; Class of 1942. Shirley was united in marriage to Wilburn B. Lokey on February 16, 1946; they spent 61 loving years together until his death on February 23, 2007.

Shirley worked as an Administrative Secretary for the director of the U of M Hospital.  Once married, she became a devoted homemaker and taking care of her family was her true joy in life.  She was a wonderful mother and very active in her children’s lives with the 4H in Canton and the PTA.  She loved to have a houseful of kids and always hosted holidays for her family.  Shirley cherished the time she spent with her family and liked to do everything they did.  She adored animals and feeding the birds with her many bird feeders.  She was very crafty and liked to share the decorations she made with family and friends.  While living in Florida she enjoyed boating and always had a boatful of friends when they would visit different marinas for lunch or dinner.

Shirley is survived by her son, William and Deborah Lokey and their children Lauren and Michael; and son Robert and Martha Lokey and their children Jeff, Neil, and Patrick; and several great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Private family services were held.  She will be laid to rest with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
