Mark Edward Hankins

Mark E. Hankins, of Northville, formerly of Farmington Hills, passed away peacefully August 17, 2013 at the age of 65 after battling bile duct cancer for almost 2 years. He was born May 26, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan; son of William and Mary (Tracey) Hankins. Mark was united in marriage to Jan Anderson on September 15, 1973; they would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year. He has been a resident of Northville for 2 months, Plymouth for 13 years, and Farmington Hills for 15 years. He recently enjoyed wintering in Bonita Springs, Florida. Mark was a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch in Dearborn for 30 years; he was a dedicated employee who truly loved his job. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis. He cherished spending time with his friends and family. He was very adventurous and loved boating and being on the water. He also liked to dine out; not because the cooking at home wasn't great but because he enjoyed trying new restaurants. Mark was an avid ice cream eater; chubby hubby was his favorite. He was a devoted husband, a loving and proud father, an esteemed family man, and a dear friend. Mark is survived by his wife Jan; his sons Matt (Tess) Hankins and Scott Hankins; his grandson Luke Hankins; his siblings Bill Hankins, Carol "Mimi" (Larry) Smith, Christine Hankins, Joanne (Joe) Nashar, and Mary (Tom) Miyagawa; and his brother-in-law Walt Czop. He was also loved by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, aunts, friends, co-workers and clients. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Laurie Gustafson and Kathy Czop; and his brother Dennis Hankins. Visitation will be held Monday, August 19, 2013 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville, MI 48167. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 2 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. at Nardin Park United Methodist Church, 29887 West Eleven Mile, Farmington Hills, MI 48336. Family and friends are invited to a gathering at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20 at Ginopolis located at 27814 Middlebelt Road in Farmington Hills, MI 48334 to laugh about the good times. Please feel free to bring a picture and a story to share with everyone.
