Irvin L. Janisewski Age 88, of Northville, passed away peacefully December 29, 2013. He was born on January 1, 1925 in Stanley, Wisconsin; son of Philip and Elizabeth (nee Samplawski) Janisewski. For many years he owned and operated 3 barber shops in Detroit. Later he went to work at General Motors as a Quality Controller inspecting transmissions; he retired from GM in 1994. He was united in marriage to Leona Sloan on August 22, 1981; they spent 32 loving years together. He was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Livonia and a member of the Westland Moose Lodge. Irvin enjoyed travelling, playing bingo, and taking trips to the casino. He was a gentle giant who never spoke an unkind word to anyone. The Red Wings and the Tigers will miss this passionate fan. And the children will miss the candied orange slices that he so generously shared. Irvin is survived by his beloved wife Leona; his loving children Charlene (Ron) Farmer and Judith (Kenneth) Peterson; his sisters Lorraine (George) Stanek and Carol (Richard) Sorensen; 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-laws Robert (Judy) Sloan and Ross (Jody) Sloan and his special extended family from Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Anita Janisewski, his brothers Vernon and Lester, and his sisters Marion and Phyllis. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 1, 2014 from 1-4pm and Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 11am-2pm with a funeral service beginning at 2pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. Rev. Robert F. Bayer with Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church will officiate the service.
