Age 97, a longtime resident of South Lyon, passed away peacefully March 4, 2014. She was born September 28, 1916 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of John and Kathrina (nee Kahlor) Ollariu. Clara was united in marriage to Frank Hamlin, who passed away in 1969. She later married Maurice Malo and they spent 25 loving years together until his death in 1999. She worked as an assembly worker for Burroughs in Plymouth, retiring after 30 years. Clara loved animals of all kinds; she cared for many cats, dogs, and even pigs, but her favorite were horses. For many years she rode her horses in the Fourth of July Parade in Northville alongside her daughter. Clara was very compassionate and often took in strays that found their way to her home. She is survived by her loving daughter, Mary (Eugene) Bongiovanni; her grandchildren, Annie Eckman and Theresa (Chad) Rozanski; her great grandchildren, Paul (Jessica) VanRokel, David VanRokel, and Veronica Eckman; and her great great grandchildren, Amanda, Sean, and Layla. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Hamlin; her son, Frank Hamlin, Jr.; her husband, Maurice Malo; her parents; and her sister, Margaret Ollariu. Visitation will be held Friday, March 7, 2014 from 3pm - 8pm with a Rosary beginning at 7 pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. Clara will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. The family would appreciate memorial contributions to Alzheimer's Association, Greater Michigan Chapter, 25200 Telegraph Rd., Ste. 100, Southfield, MI 48033.
