Richard L. King

Age 79, longtime resident of Northville, passed away March 10, 2014. He was born on July 4, 1934 in Romulus, Michigan to Cyrus King and Margaret Schmidt. Lee was united in marriage to Marilyn Holmes on May 19, 1956 and they spent 55 loving years together until her death in 2012. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1952. Following high school, he attended Ferris State University and later Ford training. Lee worked for Ford as a Senior Designer on the Mustang; he retired after 34 years with the company. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Livonia, where he served as a deacon. Lee was a dedicated husband and loving father to more than just his own children; he often saw potential in people and helped them to become successful. He was a nice, sweet, and very kind person; everyone who met him always had good things to say. He was often seen having breakfast at various Northville restaurants, and was a favorite among the waitresses, always remembering their names; monthly he met with a morning group called the ROMEOS. Lee, a talented musician, was a member of the Silver Strings in Garden City. He, along with his daughter Jenny, enjoyed sharing their musical gift with area senior citizen homes; he also taught at the Gitfiddler, which was located in Northville. Lee loved blue grass music and was inspired by Chet Atkins and Earl Scrugs; he inspired his children to become musicians, and his son, Steve, to work in the music industry. He is survived by his loving children, Steven (Roberta) King and Jennifer (Daniel) Orr; his grandchildren, Jacob Orr, Nicholas King, and Catherine Orr; and his brother, Ivan (Janet Wild) King. He was also loved by many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn King and his parents. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 14, 2014 at 5 p.m. with visitation beginning at 3 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville.
