Lawrence G. Berthiaume

September 7, 1942 — May 15, 2014

Age 71, of Northville, formerly of Farmington Hills, passed away on May 15, 2014. He was born September 7, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Arthur and Catherine (nee Zemsta) Berthiaume. He proudly served his country in the Navy from 1960-1964, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, aboard the USS Prairie as a Petty Officer 2nd Class, Machinist Repairman. Lawrence was united in marriage to Eve Stearn on August 24, 1979; they spent 34 loving years together. He attended Henry Ford Community College where he completed an apprenticeship for tool and die. He worked as an engineer with General Dynamics in Sterling Heights, retiring after 29 years. Following his retirement he continued his career working for General Motors, retiring after 10 years with the company. Larry adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He was a homebody, who's favorite place to be was home with his wife, however he did enjoy daily trips to the local stores around town. He was very kind and generous, everyone who met him liked him and he would always do anything for anyone. He was incredibly handy; he liked to fix things that were broken, whether it was for himself or someone else. He also enjoyed sharing his knowledge and taught family and friends how to repair things. He was an avid reader and history buff, especially military history; he also enjoyed camping. Lawrence loved to give things away because he could not bear to throw them out, no matter if the receiver wanted the item or not. He is survived by his loving wife Eve "Chick" Berthiaume; his children Randy (Susan) Fisher, Kim (Doug) Krest, Michael Berthiaume, and Jason (Christina) Berthiaume; and his grandchildren, Nicholas, Tyler, Anna, Maddie, and Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service will be held Monday, May 19, 2014 at Noon, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. He will be laid to rest at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens, where Naval Military Honors will be rendered.
