Age 88, longtime resident of Northville, passed away May 11, 2014. He was born on July 7, 1925 in Lima, Ohio to Robert and Leona (nee Howell) Kelly. He was united in marriage to Pauline "Polly" Bailey on June 21, 1969; and they spent 43 loving years together until her death in 2012. Dick graduated from University of Detroit Dental School in 1953; he practiced dentistry for 46 years, many of them with his own practice in Livonia. Richard served his country as PFC in the Army during World War II, where he fought in Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received the EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze stars, a Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Medal. He was very proud of being a WWII Veteran; he was the Past President of the 94th Infantry Division and attended every reunion that was held. He was honored to be chosen as one of the many Veterans who went to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington DC when it was unveiled. Dick was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. He was also a member of Redford Elks and Delta Sigma Delta fraternity. He adored his family and loved spending time with them, especially his nieces and nephews. He cherished the family reunions he and his wife travelled to attend in Arizona and Ohio. He was a wonderful friend and good to everyone who met him. Dick was a quiet man who enjoyed reading. He was an avid sports fan, always rooting for his favorite team, the Detroit Tigers. He is survived by his loving siblings, Pat (Jane) Kelly, Betty Christiansen, Mary (Bob) Walker and Jean (Tom) Troxell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Pauline "Polly" Kelly; his parents; his brother Bob Kelly; and his brother-in-law, Don Christiansen. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 10 a.m., with a time of gathering beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard Drive, Northville. His will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michgian. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the charity of the givers choice.
