Betty J. Thumm, age 85, of Northville, passed away June 17, 2014. She was born April 20, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of Leo Wilfred and Vida Myrtle (nee Batchelor) Dilse. Betty graduated from Southeastern High School in 1947; she was a very gifted student. At the age of 13 she was hired at J.L. Hudson Company, but did not start her job until she was 14. She was 17 and still in High School when they made her a Supervisor in Inspections. After High School graduation, she went to work for Michigan Bell as a Service Representative and was later promoted to Supervisor in the business office. Betty was a hardworking and devoted mother who supported her children by working as a bookkeeper with various plumbing companies. She also was the owner and operator of Tiffany Personnel Company. Betty loved traveling to Mackinac Island and loved going to the Michigan State Fair with her family. She was a great cook who enjoyed an occasional fine dining experience. Betty liked to garden and was very proud of her rose bushes. She is survived by her children, Debra (William) Miller, Robert (Frankie) Thumm, Carol Thumm, Leslie Thumm, Susan (Moses) Venegas, and Richard Thumm and her grandchildren, Shannon Clark, Robert Thumm, Brian Clark, Heather Haely, Jennifer Haely, and Erin Venegas. She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger sister Ruth Dilse. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 5-8pm. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11am with visitation beginning at 10am at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. She will be laid to rest at Perry Mount Park in Pontiac Friday, June 20, 2014 at 3pm. Memorial contribution would be appreciated to the Special Olympics Michigan, Central Michigan University, Mt.
