John R. Genitti, Jr.

John R. Genitti, Jr. Age 67, a longtime resident of Northville, passed away on August 16, 2014. He was born June 10, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan; son of John and Clare (nee Fallucci) Genitti. John served as a Sergeant in the US Army during the Vietnam War; he was awarded various medals. On October 28, 1972 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Antonia "Toni" Vermiglio. Family was the most important aspect of John's life; he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. John was the owner of Genitti's Hole-in-the-Wall in Northville; with his wife Toni by his side they built the business from a market to a restaurant to a family style dinner theatre. He was a proud member of the VFW Post 4012. John loved traveling in his motor home; whether he was going to Florida for the winter with Toni or quick trips to Michigan campgrounds with his grandchildren. He would often be found walking his beloved dog Sebastian or just sitting on the bench in front of Genitti's in downtown Northville. John enjoyed watching baseball, completing crossword puzzles, and hosting friends at his home for the Friday night concerts. He was a very generous man who volunteered his time as much as he could. John is survived by his wife Toni; his children, Andrew (Leslie) Genitti, Laura (Kirk) Rentz, and Tina Genitti; his grandchildren, Avery, Andrew, Mia, Olive, and Sonny; and his aunt Mary Ware. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Charles Genitti. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014 from Noon until 8pm with a tribute service at 7pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 11am, with visitation beginning at 10am at the First United Methodist Church, 777 West Eight Mile, Northville. Burial with full military honors will be held at Rural Hill Cemetery following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to the VFW Post 4012, c/o Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville, Michigan 48167.
