Ruth L. Hollister, age 80, of Northville, formerly of St. Clair Shores, passed away peacefully August 20, 2014. She was born September 22, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of Benjamin and Gladys (nee Stewart) Bonsky. She was united in marriage to James C. Hollister on June 12, 1954; they spent 35 loving years together until his death in 1990. Ruth worked as a bookkeeper for many years with various types of companies, such as banks, credit unions, title companies, even her husband's business. She was a wonderful cook. Her specialty was a tremendous canned tomato sauce, which was made from tomatoes she grew in her own garden. The tomato sauce became the base for many delicious recipes shared with her family. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Alison (Thomas Lewis) Hollister; her granddaughter, Marie (Karl) Otto; her great granddaughter, Sonja Otto; and her brother, William (Shirley) Bonsky. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Helen Jean Moody; and her brother Stanley Bonsky. Visitation will be held Monday, August 25, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. She will be laid to rest at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Township.
