Mary R. Macdougall

Mary R. MacDougall Age 89, a longtime resident of Northville, passed away November 19, 2014. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 29, 1925; daughter of Stephen and Susan (nee MacDougall) White. She was united in marriage to Archie MacDougall on August 4, 1951; they spent over 55 loving years together until his death in 2007. Mary received her Teaching Certificate from Truro Teachers College in Truro, Nova Scotia. She began her lifelong teaching career at the age of 17 and taught fulltime at St. Suzanne Catholic School until she retired in 1976. Because of her devotion to children and teaching she continued substitute teaching until 1985. Mary was a longtime member of the Nova Scotia Club of Detroit. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Archie to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia every summer to visit family. Mary was an avid storyteller who enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. Waiting to greet her in Heaven was her darling from Kenloch and her six angels. She is survived by her sister-in-laws, Bernadette "Babe" MacDougall and Catherine "Kay" White; her nephews, David (Teri) White, John (Tami) MacDougall, Jeff (Diane) MacDougall, Jerry (Debbie) MacDougall, and Jason (Jamie) MacDougall; and her nieces Margaret (Alex) Parker and Sandy (Donald) Parker. She is also survived and loved by many great nieces and nephews and many great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Alex White and Roddy White; her nephew Jim MacDougall; and her great nephews, Brian MacDougall and David White. The visitation will be held Friday, November 21 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 5:30 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 22 at 10:30 a.m., instate at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard Drive, Northville. She will be laid to rest at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to Capuchin Soup Kitchen, 1820 Mt. Elliott, Detroit, Michigan 48207.
