Dr. George P. Kalas, MD, PhD Age 85, of Northville, passed away peacefully January 3, 2015. He was born December 2, 1929 in Iraklion, Crete, Greece; son of Paul and Hariklia (nee Kontojianni) Kavallinis. George was united to marriage to Maria Dretaki in 1966; they have spent 48 loving years together. He attended medical school in Athens and specialized in Neurology in New York. George was a founding member of Nativity of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. He loved to read, play cards with his neighbors, and take care of the trees in the garden. He enjoyed watching sunsets with his wife. When he was younger he aspired to be a sea captain because of his love of the sea, however his true calling was in the medical field. George was a medical doctor for over 35 years. He also consulted with Northville State Hospital for many years, as well as consulting for St. Mary's Hospital, Annapolis Hospital, and Harper Hospital. George retired 20 years ago at the age of 65. George is survived by his loving wife Maria Kalas; his children, Paul (Aspasia) Kalas and Veronica Kalas; his sisters, Katina (Iosif) Kiriakopoulos and Pauline (Thanasis) Tzinis; and his granddaughters Maria and Natalia. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 4-8pm with the Trisagion at 7:30pm. A funeral service will be held Monday, January 5, 2015 at 11am, with visitation beginning at 10 am, at Nativity of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 39851 5 Mile Road, Plymouth, Michigan 48170. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions would be appreciated to Nativity of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church.
