Dr. Gordon R. Forrer Dr. Gordon R. Forrer, age 92, of Northville, passed away on February 17, 2015. Dr. Forrer was born April 1, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland, eldest son of Dr. Wilhelm G. Shules and Blanchard Forrer Shules. He trained as a medical doctor at the University of Maryland and graduated from the University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Medicine in 1947. He did his internship at the U.S. Marine Hospital and residencies at Wayne Co. General Hospital and Ypsilanti State Hospital. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War where he taught medical students and interns at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Forrer married Carol Hanke in 1951 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. and Mrs. Forrer settled in Northville, Michigan where he was clinical director at Northville State Hospital and then in private practice until 2001. Gordon was a great woodworker; among his projects he made beautiful furniture and carved shore birds. He was a talented painter, who also enjoyed classical music and reading. Gordon was an inventor; he was always inventing or improving gadgets or tools. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Gordon Forrer, lived a long and fruitful life; he was an admirable and caring husband and father, and he will be missed by those who love him. Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Carol Forrer; his children, Jane (Russell) Weston, Susan (Randy) Busscher, and John (Sharon) Forrer; and his grandchildren Dr. Joshua (Lena) Busscher, Andrew (Caitlin) Busscher, Adam Forrer, and Lauren Forrer. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, and 1 sister. A time of gathering will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Salvation Army.
