Charles "Clancy" Ely Age 80, lifelong resident of Northville, passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2015. He was born January 31, 1935 in Northville, Michigan; son of Charles and Margaret (nee Tank) Ely. He met the love of his life Phyllis Shannessey while they both were attending Ferris State University in 1954; they were married on June 30, 1956 and spent 58 years together. Clancy received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Ferris State University in 1956. He proudly served his country with the Air National Guard from 1957-1963. Following his dad's retirement he purchased and became the owner of Ely Fuel in Northville, a fuel oil distributor for home heating. Clancy served as Past President of Northville Jaycees, Past Presient of Northville Chamber of Commerce, Northville Planning Commission, Beautification Commission, and as a Board Member of Michigan Petroleum Association. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason. Clancy, a world traveler, enjoyed his winters in Homosassa, Florida for the past 15 years and attending the Northville reunions that took place in Avon Park. An avid golfer, he played in the Men's League at Salem Hills for 40 years. He also enjoyed playing games such as cribbage and cards. He loved his dog Mitzi. Clancy is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; his sister, Ulinda (William) St. Lawrence; his sister-in-law, Patricia Brejcha; and his nieces and nephews, Michael, Deborah, Robert, Molly, Mark, Marty, Michael, and Mary Ann. Visitation will be held Friday, May 29, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. Mr. Ely will be laid to rest at Rural Hill Cemetery in Northville.
