Preston "Brad" Thompson

Preston "Brad" Thompson Age 90, of Northville, formerly of Farmington Hills and Knoxville, TN, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2015. He was born August 23, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Benjamin and Mary (nee Andrew) Thompson. Brad was united in marriage to Virginia Hartley on February 14, 1947; they spent 68 loving years together. He was a devout Catholic; his faith was very important to him and encompassed all parts of his life including attending Catholic school for his education. He graduated from St. Philip Neri High School in Detroit at the age of 16 and received a Bachelor of Science from University of Minnesota. He proudly served his country with the Navy during WWII. Brad worked as an Engineer for American Natural Resources retiring after 35 years with the company. Hockey was a big part of Brad's life; he played college hockey for University of Minnesota and was a huge Red Wings fan. He was an avid golfer; following retirement he moved to a golf course community in Knoxville, TN where he was able to practice his passion daily. He also enjoyed boating. Brad was a devoted husband and loyal family man. He cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren and they time they spent together; in return he was very loved. He is survived by his loving wife Virginia Thompson; his children, Brad (Karen) Thompson, Jr., Dave (Barb) Thompson, Sandy (Brad) Drake, Kathleen Thompson, Michelle (John) Kiely, and Kim Thompson; 10 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Thompson. A private family funeral mass will be held Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church of Northville. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Madonna University Veteran Program, 36600 Schoolcraft Rd., Livonia, MI 48150.
