Eric J. Yerkes

Eric J. Yerkes, age 52, of Oxford, passed away on August 11, 2015. He was born in January 1963 at the McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas; son of Charles and Judith (nee DeClarke) Yerkes. He was united in marriage to Ruth R. Goniwiecha on August 1, 1992; celebrating their 23rd wedding anniversary just over a week ago. Eric graduated from Northville High School; class of 1981. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army. He worked for the US Postal Service for 30 years. Eric loved his books, music, tv and was a huge fan of old time radio. He also enjoyed bike riding and playing disc golf. He loved the outdoors and nature basking in the sun or on his boat at his lake house. He was a kind soul who loved animals. Eric would take pleasure in rescuing stranded or injured animals. He would even go as far as to give roadside animals a proper burial. He was a very caring and thoughtful person who had a unique sense of humor. He was a kid-at-heart who truly enjoyed playing and teasing with his nieces and nephews. Eric's loyalty to his favorite football team the Detroit Lions was solid. He is survived by his devoted wife Ruth; his sister Renee Norman; his brother Michael (Frances)Yerkes; very many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; his beloved pets Lil Rita, Little Kitty and Pinkie. He was preceded in death by his parents. A private family service will be held at Casterline Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at his family cemetery, Yerkes Cemetery in Northville. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to a charity of the giver's choice.
