Beryle E. Hines

Beryle E. Hines Age 91, a resident of South Lyon for over 45 years and formerly of Salem, passed away on September 15, 2015. He was born November 3, 1923 in Milford, Michigan; son of Byrle and Effie (nee Fullmer) Hines. Gene was united in marriage to Claire Thomasson on January 12, 1945; they spent 48 loving years together until her death in 1993. He graduated from Novi High School, class of 1939. Gene proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps as a P38 Fighter Pilot and was a member of the American Legion in Whitmore Lake. He was a very active member of Wesley United Methodist Church Whitmore Lake. He served as the head usher and greeter for many years, was a member of the men's group, was active with bible study and also served on many different committees throughout the years. Gene's two passions in life were church and gardening. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and tending to his very large garden. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. After he retired he liked to travel and camp with his wife. Gene was a volunteer firefighter in Salem and Green Oak Township and was the building inspector in Salem for several years. He enjoyed going to air shows with his longtime friend Alvin Killeen. He loved spending time with his family. Gene was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his daughters Jody (Al) Williams and Sue (Craig) Henry; his grandchildren Jessica (Bill Leathers) Williams and Craig Henry; his great grandchildren Alex, Kallie, Miranda, John, Dylan, Payge, Claire, and Zach; and his brothers David Hines and Robert (Audrey) Hines. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his son John Hines. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 2:00pm-7:00pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 21, 2015 at 4:00pm with visitation beginning at 3:00pm at Wesley United Methodist Church, 9318 N. Main Street, Whitmore Lake. Pastor Fred M. Hatfield and Rev. Robert Easlick will officiate the service. Mr. Hines will be laid to rest next to his wife at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi, Michigan. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to Wesley United Methodist Church, 9318 North Main Street, Whitmore Lake, MI 48189.
