Elizabeth A. Potter, age 86, a longtime resident of Westland passed away peacefully in the arms of her son Thursday, February 11, 2016. She was born September 14, 1929 in Boston, Massachusetts; daughter of Brenton and Kathleen (nee Zwicker) Grant. She completed her undergraduate degree at Webster College in Missouri and received her Masters degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Elizabeth was a wonderful vocal music teacher for 40 years. She retired from the Wayne Westland Community School District in 1991. She served on the Wayne County Community College Board of Trustees because she believed in higher education.Elizabeth loved teaching and playing the piano. Music was a central part of her life; she was a member of the Spirit of Detroit Chapter of the Sweet Adelines Chorus. She lead by example and followed an extraordinary code of ethics. Elizabeth was very intelligent and generous; she would help friends and family in need without question. Recently she enjoyed playing bridge and visiting the different zoos in Michigan and Florida with her son. Elizabeth is survived by her children Lissa Potter and Morton “Mort” Potter; her brother Brenton (Marge) Grant; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Priscilla McNeely, and her brother Douglas Grant.Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 5:30pm until 7:30pm with a service beginning at 7:30pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville.
