William E. Schmidt, age 82, a longtime resident of Northville, passed away on February 11, 2016. He was born June 17, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio; son of Everett and Dorothy (nee Kline) Schmidt. William was united in marriage to Lora J. Angell on November 21, 1964; they spent 51 loving years together.William graduated with a Master’s Degree from Wayne State University. He began his career as an Art Teacher with Detroit Public Schools and retired 35 years later from Pioneer Middle School in Plymouth. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder, Usher, and enjoyed singing in the choir. William also enjoyed gardening and keeping a meticulous yard. He was a wonderful gourmet cook; his dishes were often served at dinner parties with friends. He was a car enthusiast; he liked going to the Auto Show and was always expanding his knowledge about different car models. William enjoyed traveling with his wife, but his favorite vacation spot was his chalet Up North that he built in his 20’s and later remodeled. He and his family shared many wonderful memories at the chalet; they spent many weekends in the winter skiing and summers at the beach.He is survived by his beloved wife Lora A. Schmidt; his daughters, Katie (Joel) Smart, Margo Schmidt, and Jean (William) Peedle; and his grandchildren, Ty Schmidt, Brooke Peedle, and Jolie Smart. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, February 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with a time of gathering beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 Elm Street, Northville.
