Doreen B. Echols, age 88, of South Lyon passed away peacefully on March 6, 2016. She was born July 22, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of Albert and Anne (nee Schreiber) Lane. She was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Echols on April 27, 1946; they spent over 59 loving years together until his death in 2005. She graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit, class of 1946. Doreen has lived in South Lyon since 2002. She raised her family and spent most of her life in Farmington Hills. When her husband retired they moved to Algonac and spent 20 blissful years there.Doreen loved crafting; she was especially fond of knitting and crocheting. She made many wonderful creations that she shared with her family. She enjoyed crossword and word search puzzles. Doreen was an avid reader. She loved being outdoors in the sun and enjoy fishing and boating up north with her grandchildren. As a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary she would often volunteer to patrol lakes and rivers. She liked visiting Selfridge Air National Guard Base, an interest she shared with her grandchildren. Doreen was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.She is survived by her children Rick (Eileen) Echols, Jr., Greg (Elaine) Echols, and Laurie Echols; her son-in-law Thomas Voltattorni; her sisters JoAnne Jahner and Carole (Bob) Rhode; her grandchildren, Brenda Dixon, Denise Echols, Jason Echols, Anthony (Sarah) Voltattorni, Kristin (Ben) Dolby, Jonathan (Rachel) Echols, and Andrew (Olivia) Voltattorni; and her great grandchildren, MacKenzie, Skylar, Isabella, Eden, Malachi, Lorelei, Martin, Camden, Evelyn, Milo, Edmond, and Briella. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Mike Lane, and her daughter Debbie Voltattorni.A memorial service will be held at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, please call Casterline Funeral Home at 248.349.0611 for details. Pastor Terry A. Nelson will officiate the service. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
