Angela “Nellie” Rackov Age 104, of Marion formerly of Novi, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2016. She was born July 3, 1911 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of John and Anna (nee Zboch) Chmura. She was united in marriage to William Rackov on November 13, 1933; they spent over 49 loving years together until his death in 1982. During World War II she worked as an assembler, building bombs, at Novi Equipment; once the war ended she devoted her time to her family. Nellie was a member of the Rebekah’s; where she served as the past Grand Noble. She was also a member of the Polish Women’s Alliance. Nellie was an avid reader and made sure to read the newspaper every day. She liked to do word searches and puzzles and loved to play bingo. She was a great cook and ran a very organized home. Nellie took wonderful care of her family. She is survived by her son John Rackov; her siblings, Dolores Hartz, Mary Mennel, and Walter Chmura; and her grandsons, Brian Rackov and Orion Birch. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, her son Mitchell Rackov, her sister Caroline Langa, and her brothers Joe Chmura, Frank Chmura, and John Chmura. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 10am until 11am with a funeral service beginning at 11am at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. Pastor Jon Wilkes with the First Baptist Church of Northville will officiate the service. She will be laid to rest by her husband William and her son Mitchell at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi.
