Sue E. Hooper

Sue E. Hooper  Age 59, longtime resident of Northville, passed away April 15, 2016.   She was born August 9, 1956 in Lansing, Michigan; daughter of Charles and Nyda (nee Kelley) Barrix. She graduated from Holt High School; Class of 1974.  Sue was united in marriage to Kirk T. Hooper on March 21, 1981; they spent 35 loving years together.    Sue was a devoted homemaker; she took great pride in caring for her family.  She selflessly volunteered many hours with the City of Northville; she loved Northville and was proud to be a member of the community.  She served on the Housing Commission Board for Allen Terrace for many years, and later became President of the Housing Commission.  Sue facilitated a computer lab at Allen Terrace and held a computer class for the residents, and through donations she was able to help many seniors get computers in their homes.  She served on the Board of Zoning Appeals and attended most of the City Council meetings.  She was honored with the Claude Ely Memorial Fund Award in 2009 for her leadership, commitment, and unselfish dedication in service to the needs of the Northville Community.  She was also a member of the Northville Garden Club.  Sue enjoyed cooking and baking cakes.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed talking politics, and meeting with her coffee club three times per week.  She loved children and helped to raise many of the kids in her neighborhood.  Sue truly loved her family, especially her grandchildren and treasured the moments they spent together.   She is survived by her loving husband, Kirk T. Hooper; her children, Seth (Kimberly) Hooper, Lori (William) Datson, and Tyler (Tiffany) Hooper; her mother Nyda Barrix; her siblings, Stephen (LaVergne) Barrix and Marsha Barrix; and her grandchildren, Miles, Madison, Brenna, and Colter.  She was preceded in death by her father Charles Barrix.   A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Noon with a time of gathering at beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville.  Pastor Drex Morton will officiate the service.  Mrs. Hooper will be laid to rest at Rural Hill Cemetery in Northville.   The family would appreciate memorial contributions to American Cancer Society, 20450 Civic Center Dr., Southfield, MI 48076.
