John Tim O'NeilIt is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of John Tim O’Neil, who passed on May 1st, 2016 in Naples Community Hospital – Naples, FL. Tim was born on September 13th, 1938 in Detroit, MI to Harold McKinley O’Neil and Ann Mable O’Neil. Tim had one older brother, Jerry O’Neil (deceased – 2012) and is survived by his son, Michael O’Neil, daughter-in-law, Michelle O’Neil, and granddaughter, Olivia O’Neil. Tim was a graduate of Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, MI before pursuing a Mechanical Engineering Degree at General Motors Institute (Kettering University). After completing his degree, he went on to his first job with Cadillac for five years. He then took a Resident Engineer position at Ford Motor Company where he worked for the next 33 years; he retired in 1996. But Tim never retired from life’s activities. He was devoted Methodist and member of the First United Methodist Church in Northville, MI, then joining East Naples Methodist Church. Tim was also a decorated Shriner with over 50 years of service contributing to Shriners Hospitals for Children. He loved being with people and going to new places. He had energy for life far beyond his age, always enthusiastic and willing to help others. Tim loved going Up North and being in the woods with nature. Hunting, fishing, canoeing, or just chopping some wood, his love for the outdoors was passed down and can be seen in his son, Michael. Tim would glow when he saw his granddaughter, Olivia. She fired him up, he chased her, played in the pool, went on walks with the dog; enjoyed warm, breezy days on the beach; she lit up his life. Tim also enjoyed traveling and visited Ireland, Alaska, the Greek Isles and Thailand in the past few years. He loved the time he spent with his family and friends in Florida and back in Michigan. At the Church, on the golf course, at the pool, playing cards, or watching a NASCAR race on Sundays with his best friend Emil, Tim enjoyed all the happiness and joy the from the people that surrounded him. For the past four summers, Tim stayed with Michael, Michelle, and Olivia in Michigan. They got to spend a lot of time together, watching Olivia swim, start kindergarten, do gymnastics, and relax at the cottage. Tim left us too soon with much more love, giving, and happiness left on the table and he will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held Friday, May 6, 2016 from 1pm until 8pm and Saturday May 7, 2016 from 10am until Noon with a service beginning at Noon at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. He will be laid to rest at Rural Hill Cemetery following the funeral service.
