Augusta “Gussie” Mehill, age 96, of New Hudson, formerly of Parma, Ohio, passed away June 7, 2016. She was born in Bellaire, Ohio on October 14, 1919; daughter of Guiseppi and Anna (Fonzi) De Mattia. She graduated from Bellaire High School; Class of 1937. Gussie was united in marriage to John P. Mehill; they spent 58 loving years together until his death in 2013. Gussie began her working career as the Secretary to the President of Standard Products which built tanks during the war years. She then worked as the Secretary for the Principle of Parma Public Schools, including Hillside Jr. High and Parma Sr. High; retiring after 19 years with the district. She was a member of St. Matthias Church in Parma, Ohio. Gussie was an avid reader who was a member of the book club at Abbey Park; her favorite genres were fiction and historical fiction. A fan of horse racing, she enjoyed watching the Triple Crown. She also enjoyed watching old movies, Westerns in particular. Gussie loved the news, weather, and politics and was always up for a healthy discussion about any of those topics. A wonderful friend, Gussie was very social, kept up with the latest fashion trends and was always dressed well. Gussie cherished her family; her grandsons were the light of her life. She is survived by loving son, Mark (Becky) Mehill; her grandsons, Nathan Mehill and Matthew Mehill; her nephew, Michael (Mandy) Curran, her great nephew, Kevin Curran; and her dear friend of 56 years, Rosie (Phil) Colucci. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her grandson, Noah Mehill; her sister, Mayme Curran; and her nephew, John Curran, Jr. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 46325 Ten Mile Rd., Novi. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions would be appreciated to Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Dr., Ann Arbor, MI 48103.
