Shirley June Prentis

June 22, 1922 — November 27, 2016

Shirley June Prentis  Age 94, longtime resident of South Lyon passed away November 27, 2016. She was born June 22, 1922 in Webster Groves, Missouri; daughter of Ralph and Lillian (nee Keller) Ryder. She was united in marriage to Harry J. Prentis on June 9, 1945; they spent 71 years devoted to one another.  Shirley worked as a Secretary for Detroit Public Schools, retiring after many years.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of South Lyon since 1990.  She had a wonderful eye for antiques and enjoyed spending time antiquing.  She created beautiful cross stitch pieces that she shared with her family and also liked to sew.  Shirley read the bible daily, her faith was important to her.  She cherished her family and the time they spent together.   Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Harry J. Prentis; her sons, Lou (Liz) Prentis, Larry (Loretta) Prentis, and Jeff Prentis; her grandchildren, Zachary (Stacey) Prentis, Matthew (Nicole) Prentis, Courtney (Charles) Berg, and David Prentis; and her great grandchildren, Nolan, Ethan, Xavier, and Santiago. Her family will miss her loving, giving spirit. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Donald Ryder, and her daughter-in-law Patricia Prentis.     A Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of South Lyon, 205 East Lake St., South Lyon.   In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Active Faith, 401 Washington St., South Lyon, MI 48178 or First Presbyterian Church of South Lyon, 205 E.
