Clarence A. Hein, age 99, of Canton previously of Detroit, passed away peacefully March 9, 2017. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 11, 1917; son of William and Clara (nee Roschewski) Hein. Clarence was a graduate of Mackenzie High School in Detroit. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the Army during World War II. Clarence was united in marriage to Irene S. Zdybhal on September 3, 1947; they were devoted to each other for 54 years until her death in 2001. Clarence was a Service Technician with MichCon for 30 years; he retired in 1980. He was an active member of the VFW Post 4012 and was recently honored as the Grand Marshal of the 2016 Memorial Day Parade in Northville. Clarence enjoyed both vegetable and floral gardening. He liked to repair cameras and also liked to go bowling. He adored his dog Gracie. Clarence was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his children; Kirk (Gloria) Hein and Leslie (the late David) Rae; his sisters, Lillian Kreitch and Dolores Totton; his grandchildren, Tracy (John) Walker, Mandy (Andy) Brown, Melanie (Nick) Hitchcock, Kelly Hein, Ryan (Lisa) Rae, Kyle Rae, Erika Hein, Megan Hein, and Michael Hein; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene, and his son Terry Hein. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. The VFW Post 4012 will officiate the service and full military honors will be rendered following the service.
