Walter G. Shureb Walter G. Shureb, age 95, longtime resident of Northville, formerly of Detroit, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family March 9, 2017. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 10, 1921; son of Michael and Alice (nee Prato) Shureb. Walter graduated from Central High School in Detroit; Class of 1938. He continued his education at U of D where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1951. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII. Walter was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Ann Gaffney on January 24, 1948; they spent 69 years devoted to one another. Walter worked as an auditor for Defense Contract Audit Agency in Detroit; he retired in 1973 at the age of 52. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Parish since 1978. He was active with the church serving as a lay minister and attending daily mass for many years. Walter was an avid golfer; he liked playing new courses and would even play with an orange ball during Michigan winters. Golf was his most favorite spectator sport; he was also a Tiger Baseball fan. Walter was a music enthusiast and loved to dance; he and his wife danced regularly until 2014. They attended many weekly senior dances in the area as well as at the Plymouth Elks where they were members. He was an amateur photographer and captured many memories of his children throughout the years; he would develop his pictures in the darkroom he built in his home. Walter was very handy and intelligent. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. Walter was truly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Walter is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann; his children, John, Richard, Robert (Kathryn), Mary Margaret (Tony) Sole, Rosemarie, and Susan; his grandchildren, Ramona (Kevin) Caldwell, Stephanie, Christopher, Patrick, Marie, Kevin, Josie (Benny) Corrao, Riccardo Sole, and Rosie Sole; and his great grandchildren, Portia, Jackson, and Madison. He was preceded in death by his son James, his parents, and his brother Victor. Visitation will be held Monday, March 13, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a scripture service at 6:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with gathering beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard Dr., Northville.
