Vernell Bishop, age 94, longtime resident of Plymouth, passed away peacefully at home April 14, 2017. She was born March 24, 1923; daughter of Walter E. and Ruby M. (nee Chandler) Scott. Vernell graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn, Michigan; Class of 1941. She worked as a Medical Biller for the State of Michigan at Plymouth State Home, Northville State Hospital, and Hawthorne Center before retiring in 1988. Vernell was a member of Ward Presbyterian Church for many years; she attended church every Sunday and when she was no longer able she listened to the services on the radio. Vernell was a voracious reader, romances were her favorite. Following the loss of her vision she continued her love of reading by listening to audio books. Her mind was very sharp; she loved to learn and expand her knowledge. Following retirement she was very well travelled; she would travel with friends, often the same couple. She went on 26 cruises, including Alaska, the Caribbean, and Hawaii and visited Vegas several times a year. Vernell enjoyed gardening and working in her yard; she kept active by push mowing the ¾ of an acre she lived on, taking care of the beautiful flowers she grew, and feeding the birds. She lived a very happy life and always had fun; she cherished the holidays when the family would gather together, picnics, and having family over to swim in her pool. Although she lived alone Vernell set her place at the dinner table each night and always had a napkin in her lap. She enjoyed a glass of wine now and then, but always made sure one of her daughters had a glass with her so they could cheer. Her perfect day was driving to each of her daughters homes for a visit and then to the golf course to watch the sunset. Vernell truly loved her daughters and keeping her son-in-law’s in line. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and learning what each were up to. Vernell will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Vernell is survived by her beloved daughters Linda J. (Donald) Darling, Judith A. (Donald) Good, and Jaqueline K. (Timothy) Schoendorf; her grandchildren Scott (Tonya) Darling, Cynthia (Scott) Krucki, Derek Good, Allyssa (Sebastian) Oswiecimski, Douglas Good, Kristia (Shaun) Williams, Nicholas Schoendorf, and Abigail Schoendorf; and her great grandchildren Allison, Teryn, Jayde, Maxwell, Lukas, Paige, and Brenna. Also loved by Adra and Tom Erwin and Michele Hauwer. She was preceded in death by her parents. A Time of Gathering will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. Rev. Dr. W. Ten Roberts a Spiritual Care Counselor with Residential Hospice will officiate the service. Ms. Bishop will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth.
