James Joseph Gormley, age 66, of Detroit, passed away on July 3, 2017. He was born September 12, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan; son of John Joseph and Teresa Anne (nee Cassin) Gormley. Jim graduated from U of D Mercy with a BA in History. He was a very intelligent man who deeply appreciated history. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and spent extensive time researching the Gormley and Cassin genealogy. Jim enjoyed music of all varieties and had a wonderful sense of humor. According to the nursing home where Jim resided, he excelled in bible trivia which was a result of his Catholic upbringing and being an alter server when he was a boy. While living in Traverse City Jim volunteered at the local Old Town Playhouse Theater. He is survived by his sister-in-law Doris “Anne” Gormley and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John “Jack” Gormley, his sister Evelyn Tschirhart, and his brother-in-law James “Pat” Tschirhart. Visitation will be held Friday, July 14, 2017 from 10:30am until 12:30pm with a funeral service beginning at 12:30pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville.
