Mary Catherine Shinnick {6/5/1950-07/18/2017} died peacefully in her sleep, at the Livonia Adult Gentle Care Home. Catherine is the daughter of the late John Graham Shinnick and Josephine {Smith} Shinnick. She is the sister of Bo Hall of Northville, Michigan, and Donna Griffin of Southern Pines, North Carolina. She was predeceased by her sister Claire Knapp. Catherine leaves behind seven nieces and nephews and 14 great nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored and who adored her. Catherine attended Kingswood School Cranbrook and then studied at the University of Michigan, graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design. Primarily a sculptor, Catherine received her Master of Fine Arts from Eastern Michigan University where she became an Adjunct Professor in the Ceramics Department. She spent her summers on Bois Blanc Island and often taught art in the Island’s one room school house. In her later years she spent the majority of her time on the Island where she created some of her finest works of art. Catherine worked in ceramic, stone, and bronze often using her many years as an equestrian and her love of horses and the surrounding nature as her inspiration.
