Marilyn S. Winternheimer

March 18, 1942 — September 22, 2017

Marilyn S. Winternheimer, age 75, of Northville, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on September 22, 2017.  She was born March 18, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of Willard and Dorothy (nee Ross) Beach.  She graduated from East Detroit High School; Class of 1959.  Following high school Marilyn attended a 2 year nursing program at Port Huron Community College.  She continued her education at Wayne State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse.   She was set up with Fred Winternheimer on a blind date and they were united in marriage on April 12, 1969; they spent 48 loving years together.   Marilyn began her nursing career working in a hospital; she also worked at different nursing homes throughout the years as well as the Red Cross.  Her impressive 50 years of caring for patients as a Registered Nurse came to a close when she retired from Odyssey Hospice in 2013.    Marilyn was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Northville.  She was active in the church and loved performing with the handbell choir.  She enjoyed listening to music; among her favorites were old hymns, classical music, and Bill Gaither Gospel.  She also liked listening to NPR radio.  Marilyn adored her cats Smokey and Lilly; she often referred to them as her other children.  She had a fondness for dark chocolate and ice cream, especially a hot fudge sundae following dinner.  Marilyn was a wonderful friend, throughout her life she created long lasting friendships with people she met through her daughters.  She often got together with members from the Western Wayne Mothers of Multiples, as well as other parents from the marching bands her daughters were in, long after her children had grown.  She was a talented seamstress; she made clothes for herself, including her own wedding dress, as well as matching clothing for her daughters.  Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother; she will be missed by all who knew her.   Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Fred L. Winternheimer; her daughters, Carrie Winternheimer, Debra Winternheimer, and Heather Winternheimer; and her brother, Bill (Jackie) Beach.  She was also loved by many nieces, nephew, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents.                                                                                                          The family would appreciate memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 Elm St., Northville, MI 48167 or American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037.
