Robert W. Hartman, age 81, a longtime resident of Northville, passed away on December 11, 2017. He was born December 11, 1936; son of Dr. Norman A. and Gertrude C. (nee Clark) Hartman. Robert was united in marriage to Kayleen J. Bell on November 24, 1962; they spent 55 loving years devoted to one another as husband and wife. Bob attended Mercersburg Academy and graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh, PA; Class of 1954. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Denison University in 1958. After graduation, he worked for Uniroyal. In 1972, he founded Plymouth Rubber and Transmission, along with his brother-in-law, Hank Johnson. Plymouth Rubber is still thriving today with the help of his children and dedicated employees. Bob loved sports and devoted many years to coaching Northville little league baseball, basketball and Northville Colts Football. He was an avid jogger and loved to run through his beloved town of Northville. Bob’s love of music and sense of humor were apparent to all who knew him. He sang in many quartets in his younger years and was always very comfortable sitting at any nearby piano playing his 1950’s music. Bob always enjoyed telling a good joke. To the very end his quick wit and puns were part of his large personality. He loved spending time at his sunny Naples home with friends, but nothing was more important to him than his love and devotion for his wife, children, and grandchildren. Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Kayleen J. Hartman; his children, Laurie (Bob) Wasko, Douglas (Amy) Hartman, and Jeffery Hartman; his brothers-in-law, John Billingsley and Hank Johnson; his sister-in-law, Sharon Johnson; and his grandchildren, Caitlin Wasko, Erin, Wasko, Sarah Hartman, Jenny Hartman, and Grant Hartman. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Norman Hartman and Richard Hartman; his sister, Carol Billingsley; his sister-in-law, Barbara (nee Hartman) Sasser; and his cousin, Robert Clark. The visitation will be held Monday, December 18, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. Father Jerry Hunko from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grayling will officiate the service. Mr. Hartman will be laid to rest in Rural Hill Cemetery in Northville.
