Nettie Grace Leavenworth Porter

Nettie G. Leavenworth Porter, age 97, a longtime resident of Northville, passed away on December 13, 2017.  She was born December 23, 1919 in Garrett County, Maryland; daughter of Jackson and Sarah (nee Sell) Shuttleworth. Nettie was united in marriage to J. Bine Leavenworth on August 2, 1938; they were married for 50 years until his death in 1988. She was lucky to find love again and was united in marriage to Glenn Porter on August 19, 1992; they were married for 11 years until his death in 2003.   Nettie was a homemaker devoted to raising her family. She was a very talented seamstress who enjoyed making clothing. Nettie had a magic attic in her home and she was able to give or create anything that her children needed from the items in the attic. She liked both vegetable and floral gardening. Nettie never slowed down and was a cleaver problem solver. One of her favorite things to do with her family was going camping.   Nettie is survived by her children, Lois (Jim) Hollis, Jay Bine (Donna) Leavenworth, and Carol (Gary) Styrk; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, 9 brothers and sisters, and her son Earl Leavenworth.   Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 10am until 11am with the funeral service beginning at 11am at Memorial Church of Christ, 35475 Five Mile Road, Livonia. Rev. Mark McGilvrey will officiate the service. She will be laid to rest at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi.
