Terrence J. Carlin, age 83, of Harsens Island, passed away on December 14, 2017. He was born May 2, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; son of John and Mary (nee O’Rourke) Carlin. He was united in marriage to Ellen M. Laffey on August 8, 1955; they spent over 62 loving years devoted to one another as husband and wife. At the young age of 18 Terrence enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served his country during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. He grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Detroit in 1964. While living in Detroit he worked as a steelworker at the Ford Rouge Plant. Terrence retired in 1989 and moved to Harsens Island. He was a life member of the VFW. Terrence enjoyed boating, playing cards and listening to Irish music. He was very social and loved to tell stories and jokes. He had a great memory and a gregarious personality. Terrence was a very loving husband, a dedicated father, and a fun grandfather. He is survived by his wife Ellen M. Carlin; his children, Maryellen (David) Collier, Terrence (Diane) Carlin II, and Patrick Carlin; his siblings, Maureen (Daniel) Burke, Mary Ferguson, Jon Carlin, and Debra Carlin; his grandchildren, Michael Sant, Danielle Sant-Bass, Shaun Carlin, Kelly Carlin, Cory Carlin, Katlyn Carlin, Michael Carlin, and Bridget (Nick) Joseph; and his great grandchildren, Trinity, Keagan, Talullah, Arlo, and Finnegan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Michael Carlin. The visitation will be held Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a funeral service being held at 5:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville.
