Donald C. Baum, Sr.

Donald C. Baum, Sr., age 74, of Webberville, passed away on December 18, 2017. He was born August 21, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio; son of Clarence and Donna (nee Board) Baum.  He has lived in Webberville for 8 years; he was previously of Howell. Don graduated from South Lyon High School, Class of 1961. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1968-1976. Don was part of the Army Rangers, First Calvary. In 1971 over a 3 month period he participated in over 25 aerial missions over hostile territory. He was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his service. After returning from Vietnam he became a Police Officer in Norris, South Carolina. In 1977 Don was awarded Policeman of the Year by Congress. He later became a Truck Driver and was self-employed for many years. Don was a life member of the VFW Post 4012, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a member of the Teamsters Union. He loved cars; not only the thrill of wheeling and dealing, but he also liked rebuilding them. Don enjoyed sitting and visiting with family and friends, a long goodbye, and BBQ’s (without the sauce). Don was a kind and generous father, a goofy grandfather, a dedicated friend. He is survived by his children, Ericka Schumacher, Sandi (Walter) Timoschuk, Leannah (Paul) Krupski, Donna Charlene (Travis) Pratt, Donald C. Baum, Jr., and Michael (Kristin) Baum; his sisters, Leannah Judith (Stan) Gurney, Donna (Doug) Bevins, and Teena (Dr. C.J.) Addison; and his grandchildren, Troy Schumacher, Tim Schumacher, Mitchel Timoschuk, Katie Boyd, Ashleigh Boyd, Chloe Pratt, Lilah Pratt, Wesley Pratt, Ethan Baum, and Kyler Baum. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Virginia “Ginny” Bray. The visitation will be held Friday, December 22, 2017 from 11am until 1pm with a funeral service beginning at 1pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville.  Rev. Doug Vernon with the First United Methodist Church will officiate the service. He will be laid to rest in the Veteran Section of Rural Hill Cemetery where he will receive full military honors. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Family of Donald C. Baum, Sr. to be used according to his wishes.
