Elaine Marguerite Major

Elaine Marguerite Major, age 92, of Canton, Michigan, passed away peacefully January 18, 2018. She was born December 19, 1925 in Hastings, Michigan, daughter of Fern Newton and Pearl Marguerite (nee Love) Herrington. Elaine was united in marriage to Arthur D. Major on May 31, 1945; devoted to each other for 33 years until his death on May 3, 1978. After her most proud career choice, raising 5 children, Elaine began working as a temp service salesperson with Witt Services and later she worked at Supplemental Staffing; she retired in1991. In 1997 she began another profession as a hostess at Poole’s Tavern in Northville; she retired in 2015 but would make guest appearances after she retired. Elaine was a talented artist, an inherited gift that she passed onto her family. She loved to play scrabble and words with friends, and enjoyed baking. Elaine liked keeping up with technology and was very social. Her gregarious personality made it easy for her to make friends of all ages. Elaine was an amazing, hip, and dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend. Elaine is survived by her daughters, Mary Lee (Jan Russell) Poole, Christy (Steve) Stidham, and Janis E. Major; her daughter-in-law Inger Major; her grandchildren, Lauren (Drew) Romeo, Melissa (Chad) LeMieux, Jessica M. Poole, Thomas (Stacey) Major, and Michael A. Major; and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sons, Arthur J. Major and Dale T. Major, and her brothers, Jack N. Herrington and Douglas J. Herrington. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 2pm until 8pm. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 10:30am with visitation beginning at 9:30am at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville.
