Gerald Raymond Gorgas

Gerald R. Gorgas, age 85, of Westland, passed away on January 27, 2018. He was born November 22, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Raymond and Catherine (nee Gorney) Gorgas.  He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On July 5, 1958 he was united in marriage to Rosemarie Rober; they spent over 56 years devoted to one another until her death in 2014. Gerald moved to Westland in 2014 from Drummond Island where he chose to reside after his retirement. He worked as a Field Engineer with General Electric for 25 years, retiring in 1992. Before working at General Electric he worked for the Eastern Airlines as an Electronics Communication Technician. Gerald was a dedicated employee. Gerald enjoyed being outdoors actively hunting, fishing and boating. For over 20 years he was a member of the Drummond Island Lions Club. Later in life he was interested in financial investing and the stock market; he tracked his investments using a pen and paper. He liked to teach life lessons to his family. He was a very meticulous, hardworking, and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his children Mark (Susan) Gorgas, Steve (Jody) Gorgas, Allen (Jeremy) Gorgas, and Gayle (Cynthia Hudgins) Gorgas; his sister Alice Gorgas; and his grandchildren, Evan Gorgas, Monica Gorgas, Katie Gorgas, Jordan Hudgins, Megan Gorgas, and Luke Hudgins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister Sally Gorgas. The visitation will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 11am until 1pm with a funeral service beginning at 1pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville.  Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Drummond Island Lions Club.
