Bernice M. Murphy

Bernice M. Murphy   Bernice M. Murphy, age 94, of Northville, formerly a longtime resident of Dearborn Heights, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2018. She was born December 20, 1923 in Bakerton, Pennsylvania, daughter of John R. and Agnes M. (nee Zadai) Stefanik.  She graduated from Western High School in Detroit, Michigan; Class of 1942.  Bernice was united in marriage to Norbert E. Murphy on June 28, 1947; they spent 69 loving years together until his death June 8, 2017.    Bernice worked for many years as a secretary for the Air Force at Willow Run Airport; she reported directly to Col. Leland Money.  She was a devoted homemaker; her true calling was taking care of her family.  Bernice was a member of St. Sabina Catholic Church in Dearborn Heights, where she was active with the church guild.  She recently attended Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Northville.  Bernice had a big, generous heart; she loved to help people and take care of those in her church and community. Bernice is survived by her loving children, Norman Murphy and Noreen (Jeff Metz) Murphy; her sister Delores Plafcan; and her grandchildren, Ryan Murphy and Emily Murphy.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother.                      Private family services will be held.  She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.    In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Angela Hospice, 14100 Newburgh Road, Livonia, MI 48154 or Alzheimer’s Association, 25200 Telegraph Rd., Suite 100 Southfield, MI 48033.
