Irene E. Schultz

Irene E. Schultz, age 94, of South Lyon, passed away March 17, 2018. She was born December 28, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of Michael and Rose Holoweski. Irene enlisted into the United States Navy in 1944 and proudly served in the WAVES branch until her honorable discharge on November 23, 1945. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Schultz on June 30, 1945; they were married for over 63 loving years until his death on March 17, 2009. Irene graduated from Cooley High School; Class of 1941. In 1969 she moved to South Lyon and continued her career as a Travel Agent. After working for multiple agencies she purchased Glynn Travel Agency in Novi and was a successful business owner until she retired in 1987. After retiring she became an exceptional gardener and was one of the founding members of the South Lyon Garden Club. Gardening was her passion; she was featured on the South Lyon Garden Walk and her garden was named “Irene’s Wild Garden”. She loved to travel the world; she liked going to European countries and also liked taking cruises with her husband. Irene volunteered her time and skills at the South Lyon Senior Center coordinating senior trips. She was very active and enjoyed bowling, golfing, and tennis. Irene adored her dogs Buddy and Alfie. She was a loyal and loving mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her children, Laurie (Dean Adams) Sawyer, James (Debbie) Schultz, and Robert Schultz; her brother Michael Holowecki; her granddaughter Linda Schultz; her great granddaughter Averyanna Cassiday. Irene is also survived by her devoted caregivers Janna, Joanna, and Zoriana. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son David Schultz, her daughter Karen Schultz, her sister Babe Murphy, and her brother Walter Holoweski. She will be laid to rest on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 11:30am at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442. Military honors will be rendered for her dedicated service in the US Navy.
