Robert James Cooney

Robert J. Cooney, age 82 of Northville, passed away April 28, 2018.  He was born February 6, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Francis and Kathleen (Sweeney) Cooney. Bob graduated from University of Detroit Jesuit High School; Class of 1954. He served in the Michigan National Guard following graduation. He was united in marriage to Patricia A. McIllwain in June of 1967. They have spent over 50 years devoted to each other. Bob had a 30-year career as a realtor. He was fascinated with real estate because he was always looking for the next great deal. He found joy in purchasing several parcels of land up north. More recently, Bob enjoyed studying the stock market and making sound financial investments. He liked to go hunting with his brothers and nephews and enjoyed playing bridge with his wife. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, brother, and grandfather. Bob is survived by his wife Patricia; his children, Colleen Cooney and Robert (Kristin) Cooney; his brother Michael (Mary) Cooney; his sister Mary Jane (James) Baldwin; and his grandchildren, Jackson Cooney and Katherine Cooney. He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother Richard Cooney and his brother Joseph Cooney. A funeral mass will be held Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10:30am at Church of the Holy Family, 24505 Meadowbrook Road, Novi, MI 48375. Father James Houbeck will officiate the service. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the American Cancer Society.
