Carl J. Cassel

Carl J. Cassel, age 80, longtime resident of Northville, passed away on June 14, 2020. He was born on April 14, 1940 in Westpoint, Tenessee; son of John H. and Lorene (nee Bailey) Cassel. Carl was united in marriage to the love of his life Ovalene L. Long on May 27, 1961; they spent 59 years devoted to one another as husband and wife.

Carl worked as a truck driver for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, retiring in 2002.  He was a member of the Masons.  Carl liked to watch old westerns, Monday Night Football, and wrestling.  He was an avid sports fan, among his favorites were the Detroit Pistons and the Detroit Tigers.  Carl enjoyed bowling; he joined many different leagues throughout the years.  He also enjoyed going to the casino and playing penny or nickel slots.  When his children were younger, Carl and his family took many road trips to the Smokey Mountains and later in life he traveled all over the United States with his wife in their RV.  Carl was a true family man; he was a wonderful provider and cherished the time he spent at home with his family.

Carl is survived by his beloved wife, Ovalene Cassel; his children, Steven (Sally) Cassel, Angela (Steven) Munsell, Melissa Collins, and John (Jennifer) Cassel; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and his siblings, James Larry (Peggy) Cassel, Connie Cassel, and Linda Russo. Also loved by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Rebecca Boucha, his parents, his sister Freida Cassel, and his brother J.L. Cassel.

The visitation will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. The family will be having a private funeral service.  Mr. Cassel will be laid to rest at Rural Hill Cemetery in Northville.  During this difficult time, please make sure to reach out to the family by leaving your thoughts online, with a card or a phone call.
